Fernando Rivera Middle School was founded around 1974. As of March 2025, FRS is 51 years old. Many students and teachers have attended and worked at this school. Tons of people have made memories here at Fernando. Every place at FRS is where someone has once made a core memory. Do you ever wonder what some of those are, or how those people are doing now? Luckily, FRS Times was able to contact someone, the person being Judy Lindquis, a long-time secretary for our school, so let’s hear from her!
What year did you join FRS?
[I joined in] January 1989.
What was your job, and how long did you work at FRS?
I was a school secretary and I worked for 22 years.
How have things changed since you’ve worked at FRS?
After looking at this, there have been big changes around here. When I started working here, we barely had computers. We had them in the office, and they were so old-fashioned, they looked nothing like the computers today. As the years progressed, of course, we got more and more into technology. It was such a big help and made a huge difference. The school pretty much remained the same on most days. Now the fencing around the school was nothing like that before, along with the new office.
What was your favorite thing about working at FRS?
I did love the kids, I really did. They were really fun. I loved this age. We only had 7th-8th graders at that point. The kids were super respectful and nice to talk to. Every day was different because you never knew what was going to happen day to day. I think that’s what I liked best. We were like a family.
